Celebrating 69 years!
Download History PDF (372KB)In 1937 the Michigan Baptist Convention leased 22 acres from the Lake Louise Christian Community, a corporation established by the Michigan and Detroit Conferences of the Methodist Church, to hold and administer their Lake Louise Baptist Camp. The property comprising of about 3,000 acres came to the Methodist Church from Edward and William Horner of Eaton Rapids, Michigan. The bequest required that the land always be used fore religious purposes and the ministry of youth.
In 1938, tents were erected on wooden platforms, and for 10 day periods at a time, girls and then boys were spending their time at Lake Louise Baptist Camp. Each building has been erected in memory or honor of some person or church and given a name that reflects nature. The exception is Hopevale, which was given in memory of a martyred missionary couple.
Through the years Lake Louise Baptist Camp has been supported by the gifts, prayers and volunteer efforts of many hundreds of Christian friends. In 2004, the American Baptist Churches of Michigan gave the camp greater independence, and a camp board was established to manage and oversee the operation of the camp.
